Philip
Alexander
Philip Alexander, returns for his
second full season as Artistic Director of the Gulf Coast Men's Chorus,
after participating as Assistant Director for the chorus, and as the
creator & Director of the Florida Pride Singers, a breakout ensemble made up
of GCMC chorus members.
A native of Topeka, KS, Philip
received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities and Music Education
from the College of New Rochelle in New York. His directing and
conducting credits include the creation and direction of the nation's
Bi-Centennial choir in Topeka, KS in 1976; the creation and production
of several Gospel Groups, producing national tours and co-producing two
albums. He has studied voice, conducting, clarinet, piano and violin
(just to name a few) all while pursuing his hobbies of golf, tennis and
scuba diving.
Philip has also made a
contribution as an actor and theater director playing leading roles in Once
Upon A Mattress and Sound of Music in Tulsa, OK; Run
For Your Wife, Oklahoma and Pajama Game on Long Island,
NY; and Mama's Ghost and Much Ado About Nothing in New
York City, and countless others over the past 35 years. When he is not performing or
conducting he enjoys arranging musical works for the chorus to perform,
and has seen some of those works performed before an audience of
thousands at the GALA Chorus Festival VII in Montreal, Canada.
Philip has performed with the
Gay Games Chorus in Sydney, Australia; as a back-up singer for Nell
Carter during the GALA Chorus Festival VI in San Jose, CA; with the Gay
Games Chorus in Amsterdam; as part of the New York City Gay Men's
Chorus at Carnegie Hall and numerous other choruses in Paris, London,
Singapore, Malaysia, Germany and Switzerland. He is extremely pleased
and proud to add the the Gulf Coast Men's Chorus to his list of credits.
