2007 - 2008 marks
the beginning of the eleventh season for the Gulf Coast Men’s Chorus
since making its debut performance on Dec. 14, 1997 as the guest of
the Tampa Bay Gay Men's Chorus.
The chorus, a member of GALA Choruses, performs two major concerts
annually, with various other appearances scattered throughout the
year. They have appeared in venues in Sarasota, Miami, Bradenton,
Key West, Venice, Fort Myers and Tampa, and have taken part in two
GALA
International Festivals in San Jose, California and
Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
GCMC members are from all
walks of life and all levels of singing ability, from those who have
never sung much outside the shower to professional entertainers.
Member’s ages range from 25 to 75 and professions include dentists,
motel clerks, marketing executives, government employees, and many
others.
A desire to sing and the
feeling of being part of a caring community bring chorus members
together where they have a chance to make beautiful music together.
Their audiences have responded with unfeigned exuberance and
continue to support their efforts with out fail.
All are welcome to be a part of the chorus after going through a
simple audition process. And of course, everyone is always
encouraged to come hear us perform!
The Gulf Coast
Men’s Chorus is an organization of gay and gay-friendly people
dedicated to enhancing the musical and cultural lives of its members
and audiences, and promoting the acceptance of diversity through the
presentation of quality choral music. The GCMC is also committed to
assisting other social service and community organizations.
Up to now the mission of the GCMC
has been presented by the gay and gay-friendly MALE population of
Sarasota. But, beginning in the fall of 2005 we have taken that
mission to a whole new level by creating an additional ensemble
which will consist of gay and gay-friendly WOMEN.
The new group consists of about
12 members and sings a variety of music including pop, folk,
classical, show tunes and others.
The ladies group
performs independent of the men's chorus at local community and
civic functions and is featured with the men's chorus at all major
concerts.
